Felipa Nosis: Your 24 and haven't had your own car yet? I was 20 when I got mine, yes I paid for it all also. It was about 10,000. 3,000-5,000 won't get you much. You might be spending a lot to get fix-ups. Better off looking for at least 10,000, have more choices and better car choice. Try less than 100,000 miles even under 80,000 if possible. You can always talk them down, NEVER pay what its listed if it from a dealer. Act like your interested and start with about 2,000 less then work from there and if they wont you can just walk and that will get them going more, they want to sell a car to make money, they will work with you on price....Show more
Germaine Tieken: www.carbuyingtips.comwww.tips4carbuying.comTake a friend with you that knows something about cars so you don't get ripped off.
Avis Brantner: Just go on Craigslist and browse some local listings. When you see something you like, research what it's actually worth to avoid getting ripped off. Be! sure to bring someone who knows how to look at vehicles to avoid buying something that will fall to bits soon. I normally buy used cars off private sellers and i take a buddy of mine because he knows more details that i do. I only know how to look at the engine and body.
Bernie Cerra: Purchasing a vehicle at a cost of $3k to $5k is doable, but you will be limited. Only consider vehicles that have complete service and maintenance records. Also, only consider vehicles which have current registration and a clear title.
