Graphic design and web design/development?

Bruce Calise: Let us seperate these out first. Web Design - This is to do with designing for the web. It is about creating, choosing and editing images and their placement, the fonts, the layout, the spacing and so is something of a mix between pure design and development. You will use some elements from graphic design suited to the web, some understanding of the medium and some of the tools that convert the design into an actual webpage, so some understanding of html, css, etc. Pros: Great if you enjoy websites and design Cons: Lots of routine work, client demands which may not appeal to your aesthetic sense, difficult to communicate ideas and show true ROI Web Development - This is more about programming and includes converting designs into web pages as above but also backend programming with databases. Pros: Enjoyable if you like coding, great scope for building products to match user needs Cons: Can be frustrating if you get stuck, deadlines and disasters are part of ! the game, difficult to stand out. Graphic Design: Probably the most creatively demanding of the three and is usually medium agnostic but more oriented to print. Pros: Is a great field to do something truly creative Cons: You really need to have the artist in you come out, difficult to critically stand out....Show more

Theresia Fashaw: Most such programs are called Digital Media, Multimedia or Computer Aided Design.RISD is the premiere school of design in the United States, check out what they have to say.http://www.risd.edu/

Hobert Dula: I would recommend you to take two majors one is in computer science and the other is in graphic design. Hope this will help. or digital media design + graphic design. Most problems a website designer have is that they can code and can not design or they can design but they can not code. And the future of web development will be desktop application combine with web application for security purposes and also good for your pocket mon! ey too....Show more
