5.1 channel Home Theater VS 5.1 Speakers?

Abraham Ladick: It's a little hard to understand what you are asking, 5.1 is 5.1, it means five speakers and a subwoofer. You're basically asking the difference between five speakers and a subwooferr vs five speakers and a subwoofer. The only thing I can think of is that maybe you are asking the difference between a PC system where amplification, connectivity etc is built into the same box as the woofer with speaker connections for the five speakers compared to an all in one HTiB home theater system. If that's what you are asking then the main difference is one is intended to be used with a PC and the other is intended to be used stand alone. Neither PC 5.1 systems or HTiB theater systems are available in high quality. Generally you can find a little better quality in an HTiB vs the PC type system but both are really low end. If you want good quality you have to move away from both these type systems and move into "real" audio equipment. Buy all the components indi! vidually be prepared to spend far more than any HTiB or PC system. Piecing together a small simple entry level system of any quality at all will be at least $2K ~ $3K. About ten to twnety times more than a typical PC 5.1 system. mk...Show more

Marhta Teahan: 5.1 PC speakers have discrete 5.1 analog input. In most cases, HTIB systems are not much more DVD players with speakers, having only a stereo aux in.Proper HT receivers will have digital audio in. Some may have discrete 5.1 analog audio in....Show more

Janita Tetlo! w: I agree with Dances with cats! Simply said buddy. The proper tuning of the enclosure is one that is designed to the woofers specs. This will take research and time, so do not think an enclosure can be built in just a couple of hours. The speaker box will likely need internal reinforcement as well as the proper volume too. Unless you have some experience with basic formula or have access to computer design software, purchase a ready built designed speaker enclosure. Some companies, such as Q-Logic built enclosures designed for certain car audio applications. If this does not interest you, then stick to the mainstream built enclosures....Show more

Octavio Roylance: 5.1 Channel Computer Speakers

Moira Woodrow: Maniac overstates the cost of a good entry level audio system. I have a proper 5.1 system in my office, which gets a feed from my desktop computer, and it's total cost was about $600, and it delivers great sound. It starts with a solid entry level 5.1 home ! theater audio receiver, a Yamaha RX-V467 ($200), a set of five speakers (I don't use a subwoofer with this system, but the room isn't that big that I notice the absence), all Infinity, and the front three are Infinity Beta speakers, a pair of Beta 20 bookshelf speakers ($150 used), and a C250 center speaker ($100), plus a pair of Infinity RS2s ($42 used) as the rear speakers. The rest is a multi region DVD player ($70), and a couple of bought used vintage audio sources, a cassette deck and a VCR. What it appears that you are asking is about the difference between a set of self powered computer speakers, and an all-in-one cheap home theater system. As the other answer pointed out, the first is the bottom of the line, and the second isn't much better.A proper basic home theater audio system just requires a good basic home theater audio receiver, a set of 5.1 home audio speakers, and some kind of additional source device, such as a DVD or BluRay player. Good receivers can be h! ad for $200 and up, and good sets of speakers can be had from $160. You! can also build your own speaker set by mixing and matching pairs of speakers, with a center and a subwoofer....Show more
