Russ Kiernan: Generally speaking, most employers consider 40 hours or more to be full-time employment and anything less part-time. However, in their statistical analysis, the Bureau of Labor Statistics calculates one to 34 hours as part-time employment and 35+ as full-time. Federal law defines a part-time employee as someone who works less than 1,000 hours per year for the same firm (17.5 hours per week). Jon Bergmeier: Anything less than 40 hours per week is part time. Just because you are available to work a total of 31 hours does not mean that you'll be scheduled for that much. It's unlikely that you will be scheduled everyday.
Joeann Hoyt: I don't know if it varies in each state, but in Illinois, 40+ hours is full time.
