How does a NASA aircraft design person get paid?

The Space Shuttle Orbiter was designed and built by Rockwell International while the Solid Rocket Boosters were made by the Thiokol Corporation.The engineers who design the aircraft typically get a pay check like you and me, but the really smart ones have the money automatically deposited into their bank accounts through the Direct Deposit program. There are a few who were hired in the last few years of the recession through the "will work for food" program who simply receive daily rations for subsistence.But seriously, there are many different engineers involved in the design and manufacture of such projects.
