answers1: . Robert Maynard Hutchins, of the University of Chicago, put
it that the humanities make the difference between making a living and
making alife.

The humanities are, IMO, the difference.

One can make a living without ever brushing against music, poetry,
drama, literature, -- or any other of the humanities.

But a life without them? It would be very much like living in a small
prison cell -- meaning it would be quite satisfactory if one had never
known of anything different. But if the person knew of the world
outside that cell, the cell would be intolerable, just as a life
without the humanities -- if a person were at all aware of them --
would be grim and empty.

Hope that helps -- good luck with your course.
answers2: George Lucas didn't have a degree in film, he had a degree
in Culture. In his movies he combines ancient them with futuristic. He
is not the only one. Ancient Art is also your evidence of how mankind
developed, religion paints a different picture, kind of a patriotic
version of the truth where art was more than just expressive and very
much a form of communication. They didn't have televisions then so art
then was the Television of the day and the information in a few
symbols meant paragraphs if information. There is too much to explain
on here but you'll discover, if you take a genius of today, and exile
him to ancient times, he will end up doing much of what the ancients
did with what they had. Ancient art is very much so genius on many
levels. Some may argue for instance that in Egypt, there was little
evidence of Jewish people, but the reality is, if you are holding
anything Egyptian in your hands then, it was probably made by a Jewish
person. The Techniques for art were remarkably simple and yet
timeless. Another point, even ancient Murano glass techniques are
still the same today, virtually unchanged except for computer cooling.
Ancient art had a purpose and technology and reason has caused art to
adapt for today. Its always good to get a well rounded education on
art, you never now how that education will end up influencing your own
ideologies and views. Don't ever stop learning, even when it comes to
art.
