do you see any ways in which ancient art, or the humanities in general, could really matter? Tell us why or wh?

answers1: . Robert Maynard Hutchins, of the University of Chicago, put
it that the humanities make the difference between making a living and
making alife. <br>
<br>
The humanities are, IMO, the difference. <br>
<br>
One can make a living without ever brushing against music, poetry,
drama, literature, -- or any other of the humanities. <br>
<br>
But a life without them? It would be very much like living in a small
prison cell -- meaning it would be quite satisfactory if one had never
known of anything different. But if the person knew of the world
outside that cell, the cell would be intolerable, just as a life
without the humanities -- if a person were at all aware of them --
would be grim and empty. <br>
<br>
Hope that helps -- good luck with your course.
answers2: George Lucas didn't have a degree in film, he had a degree
in Culture. In his movies he combines ancient them with futuristic. He
is not the only one. Ancient Art is also your evidence of how mankind
developed, religion paints a different picture, kind of a patriotic
version of the truth where art was more than just expressive and very
much a form of communication. They didn't have televisions then so art
then was the Television of the day and the information in a few
symbols meant paragraphs if information. There is too much to explain
on here but you'll discover, if you take a genius of today, and exile
him to ancient times, he will end up doing much of what the ancients
did with what they had. Ancient art is very much so genius on many
levels. Some may argue for instance that in Egypt, there was little
evidence of Jewish people, but the reality is, if you are holding
anything Egyptian in your hands then, it was probably made by a Jewish
person. The Techniques for art were remarkably simple and yet
timeless. Another point, even ancient Murano glass techniques are
still the same today, virtually unchanged except for computer cooling.
Ancient art had a purpose and technology and reason has caused art to
adapt for today. Its always good to get a well rounded education on
art, you never now how that education will end up influencing your own
ideologies and views. Don't ever stop learning, even when it comes to
art.

What is the difference between Humanities and Liberal Arts?

answers1: 3 letter spaces in the Websters Dictionary
answers2: Liberal arts includes humanities, creative and performing
arts, social sciences and (generally, though not officially at some
university) natural sciences. <br>
<br>
Humanities are classes like: English, philosophy, art history,
religious studies, etc. <br>
Paleo-sciences will either be considered a social science (as a branch
of anthropology) or a natural science depending upon your particular
university. <br>
<br>
So, in short, a degree in Liberal Arts will enable you to study
history, literature, arts, and paleo-sciences. A degree in the
humanities will probably not allow history (though some schools may
consider that to be a humanity) or paleo-sciences.
answers3: Liberal Arts is more broad and encompasses humanities along
with the other studies that you're interested in. Humanities is just a
category of liberal arts focusing more on civilization like
philosophy.

definition of art?

answers1: Art for me is life!
answers2: 1)According to the American psychologist Art Therapy
Association, art therapy is based on the belief that the creative
process involved in making art is on a basic level healing and
life-enhancing.[1]. Art therapists use the creative process and the
issues that come up during art therapy to help their clients increase
insight and judgment, cope better with stress, work through traumatic
experiences, increase cognitive abilities, have better relationships
with family and friends, and to just be able to enjoy the
life-affirming pleasures of the creative experience. The term art
therapist is reserved for those that are professionals trained in both
art and therapy and hold a master's degree in art therapy or a related
field.
answers3: Art is in the eye of the beholder.

liberal arts?

answers1: Basically the study of things such as theology, literature,
languages like German, philosophy, history, any type of math like
algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus and science such as
Biology and Physics.
answers2: Liberal arts are the arts that free us from ignorance.
answers3: Liberal arts gives you a little taste of everything a
college offers. You get a well rounded education but no specialty.
answers4: The term "liberal arts" is defined by the Encyclopædia
Britannica Concise as a, "college or university curriculum aimed at
imparting general knowledge and developing general intellectual
capacities, in contrast to a professional, vocational, or technical
curriculum. <br>
<br>
In Classical antiquity, the term designated the education proper to a
freeman (Latin liber, "free") as opposed to a slave. <br>
<br>
In the medieval Western university, the seven liberal arts were
grammar, rhetoric, and logic (the 'trivium', from which we get
'trivia') and geometry, arithmetic, music, and astronomy (the
quadrivium). <br>
<br>
In modern colleges and universities, the liberal arts include the
study of theology, literature, languages, philosophy, history,
mathematics, and science.

Is my essay good for a college application?

answers1: thats so great ! i wish you all the best for your
applications and sucuess in photography!
answers2: ::Every person wants to achieve their highest potential and
accomplish their goals. With hard work, practice, and optimism,
anything you desire to do is possible. That is why I want to pursue an
undergraduate study in the visual arts. I want to achieve my highest
potential and improve my skills in photography. After I spend my time
studying and reach my goal, I will be able to do whatever my heart
desires. That is what is most important to me. <br>
Growing up, everyone always told me I was bound to be a veterinarian.
I did have a passion for animals, but there was something else. I was
also interested in the visual arts. I liked to draw and take pictures,
but those were a lot different from being a veterinarian. Two
different interests and I did not know which one I was going to
choose. Which one would make me happier? I did not decide right away;
I decided just to let it come in its own time and it did.:: <br>
<br>
This feels out of place. I would personally like to see it begin in
medias res. Once you get to the part about taking photos of your
dogs, I am enthralled by your story. The first two paragraphs seems
to be stalling as you approach the true story. Somehow start in the
middle of the action. <br>
<br>
Great start, though. <br>
<br>
Try telling a bit of the story - maybe walking with your dogs,
describing what you see (artist's eye) <br>
<br>
Then explain the veterinary confusion and the 'what makes me happy' deal. <br>
<br>
Go back to the story. <br>
<br>
Describe the resolution. <br>
<br>
Conclude by further explaining your future goals (current last
paragraph) and tie it together by explaining quickly how this
particular school will help you to be successful.
answers3: Every person wants to achieve their highest potential and
accomplish their goals. With hard work, practice, and optimism,
anything you desire to do is possible. <br>
<br>
I think your punctuation is wrong in this sentence i think it should
read like this: <br>
<br>
Every person wants to achieve their highest potential and accomplish
their goals. With hard work, practice and optimism anything you desire
to do is possible

How has art deco influenced society?

answers1: Art Deco is an eclectic artistic and design style that began
in Paris in the 1920s and flourished internationally throughout the
1930s, into the World War II era.The style influenced all areas of
design, including architecture and interior design, industrial design,
fashion and jewelry, as well as the visual arts such as painting,
graphic arts and film. The term "art deco" was first used widely in
1966, after an exhibition in Paris, 'Les Années 25' sub-titled Art
Deco, celebrating the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts
Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes that was the culmination of style
moderne in Paris. At its best, Art Deco represented elegance, glamour,
functionality and modernity. <br>
<br>
Art Deco's linear symmetry was a distinct departure from the flowing
asymmetrical organic curves of its predecessor style Art Nouveau; it
embraced influences from many different styles of the early 20th
century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism and
Futurism and drew inspiration from ancient Egyptian and Aztec forms.
Although many design movements have political or philosophical
beginnings or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative. <br>
<br>
Art Deco experienced a decline in popularity during the late 1930s and
early 1940s, but had a resurgence during the 1960s with the first book
on the subject by Bevis Hillier in 1968 and later an exhibition
organised by him in Minneapolis in 1971. It continued with the
popularization of graphic design during the 1980s. Art Deco had a
profound influence on many later artistic styles, such as Memphis and
Pop art. <br>
<br>
Architectural examples survive in many different locations worldwide,
in countries as diverse as China (Shanghai), the UK, Latvia, Spain,
Cuba, Mexico, Indonesia, the Philippines, Argentina, Poland, Austria,
Germany, Russia, Romania, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India,
Brazil, Colombia and the United States. In New York, the Empire State
Building, the Chrysler Building and Rockefeller Center are among the
largest and best-known examples

what is the role of visual arts in the Great Gatsby?

answers1: I think you have to go into the colors and the symbolism therein.
answers2: I think you're meaning 'visual imagery'. <br>
<br>
There is a lot of pathetic fallacy used to describe the mood -- that
is, using seasons and weather. Since most of the book is set in
Summer, it's hot and everyone is moody. <br>
<br>
E.G, it's raining at the funeral, which is sad, etc. etc <br>
<br>
Also... The use of colors is greatly used. Grey- Corruption,
destruction, etc. <br>
Yellow (Gatsby's car) - like fake gold, worn out, not real <br>
White - purity... <br>
<br>
etc. etc... Fitzgerald has a lot of references to these, and also
describing the scenery and surroundings. <br>
<br>
Basically, it sets the mood and foreshadows following events.

Graphic design in my country is as you described as "visual art
design". Photoshop and other adobe programs are involved. I've learned
a lot about photoshop, and it's very fun to use. You can make people
logos in your spare time while attending University for money.
Graphics, as you described almost sounds like a co-op. If I were you,
I'd take the visual art design course. Will most likely benefit you
more. All you're doing in the other course is gaining hands on
experience (based on the conclusion I drew from your description).

Good luck!

Any books on acting?????

answers1: The Acts of the Apostles grew to become into written by
using a similar guy or woman who wrote the gospel of Luke. They share
comparable subjects and comparable tale lines, and Acts makes
connection with the faster paintings in its first financial disaster.
Acts isn't written as a letter yet as a tale, like the gospels. lots
of the letters interior the hot testomony have been written by using
Paul, yet scholars do no longer think of Paul write each and all of
the letters that are attributed to him. The letter to the Hebrews
isn't Paul's, and there is information that the letters to Timothy and
Titus weren't the two. And Ephesians, Colossians and 2d Thessalonians
would or won't be Paul's. The gospels have been all written after
Paul's demise, and so grew to become into Acts.

answers1: Usually in theaters for about a month.
answers2: Frozen Still In Theaters
answers3: Yes it will 100% <br>
It will be in theatres until the end of January
answers4: They stay in theaters until they stop making money and for
as long as the contract with the studio. Theaters need to make money
so they can pay the studios for the films & pay their employees. When
people stop going and the movie doesn't sell many tickets they get
ready to send it back & get a new movie. <br>
<br>
Your best bet is to wait until Wednesday next week and call the
theater and ask them. Usually by Wednesday the theater is planning
their schedule for Friday.

Is "Everything flows" a philosophy?

answers1: No it is not a philosophy. It may properly be an axiom of a
philosophy. But it is a statement of epistemology and regards only one
aspect of empirical or intellectual existence. <br>
<br>
Using that axiom in one's life, you would have to figure out how it
fit the situation. Those answers as to how it fit the situation, when
added up and placed in some sort of value-order, might constitute the
system for a philosophy. <br>
<br>
But a philosophy does have a "system," properly speaking, and it's the
methods one uses to put that axiom into play that would constitute the
system.
answers2: ...which direction is the river flowing...is the philosophy,
you stepping in and again later ...denotes your interest...enjoy...
answers3: There are philosophies for every person who has ever
existed...past, present and future...and many more to boot...some are
relevant, others are not...it's in the choosing that makes us who and
what we are...
answers4: yeah i think its definitely "a philosophy". <br>

answers5: yes, it's the philosophy of Feng Shui
answers6: It's an observation. A good one. <br>
<br>
Of course, ultimately there is no river and no "I." But it's still a
good observation.
answers7: Heraclitus also developed this idea, that, as Dylan wrote,
"Everything passes, everything changes." <br>
<br>
Simon and Garfunkel developed the opposite idea, "I am a rock," which
is more like Parmenides. <br>
<br>
Taoist thinkers combined the two, with complementary duality as both
change and permanence, united in and deriving from, Plotinus' One.
<br>
<br>
"A Philosophy of Universality," O. M. Aivanhov, and <br>
"The Path of the Higher Self," Mark Prophet, are worthwhile.
answers8: yes its a philosophy <br>
<br>
Heraclitus by Hendrick ter Brugghen"Πάντα xoῥεῖ καὶ οὐδὲν μένει." <br>
Everything flows and nothing is left (unchanged). or Everything flows
and nothing stands still.or "All things are in motion and nothing
remains still."

Logic requirements for Political philosophy?

answers1: Formal logic, Syllogistic logic are good places to start
concerning political philosophy. They teach you how to spot certain
fallacies, e.g., appeals to emotion, appeals to authority, red
herrings, slippery slopes, etc.. in the rhetorical claims of political
statements. Political science courses are also helpful. <br>

Concerning philosophy of mathematics and the presumptions of

Does anyone know of a philosophy of life?

answers1: Well, I encourage you to look into your own life and
consider what you feel is most important in a belief system, what YOU
feel, and what you consider true. <br>
In my own life I'd say my `philosophy' is that all that finally
matters is the love you put into anything you do. When I was 18 I
spent some time in a Buddhist monastery where there was a sign over
the kitchen door which read `Never Enter The Kitchen In A Bad Mood'
which meant that you had to leave your negativity behind when it was
your turn to make the meal because that negativity would influence how
you prepared the food. You had to do all things with love, with
gratitude, with attention outward rather than inward, toward others
rather than toward oneself. I am not, now, Buddhist, but I learned a
lot from the discipline and a lot from that one sign over the kitchen
doorway. <br>
The western philosophy which has done me the most good personally is
Stoicism. The Stoic philosopher Epictetus wrote, "It is not
circumstances themselves that trouble people, but their judgments
about those circumstances. For example, death is nothing terrible, for
if it were, it would have appeared so to Socrates; but having the
opinion that death is terrible, this is what is terrible" (Enchiridion
ch. 4). <br>
I find Stoicism very compatible with Zen philosophy and with pretty
much every belief system. Please see link in Sources for more on it.
<br>
All the best to you..........
answers2: as one said earlier, it takes your entire life to develop a
philosophy on how one ought to live. <br>
<br>
but i think it is much simpler than that. nobody can tell you these
things. if you have the soul for it, i recommend you explore and
discover all philosophies from all places, times, and peoples. let
time & destiny guide you. <br>
<br>
from years of general interest and open mind, you will develop a good life. <br>

I just say never back down from a challenge. Whether it is eating the

answers5: In life you need a solid plan, but what you really need is
just a secret plan.
answers6: Philosophy is merely a label for 'concepts approximately
issues which we would possibly never understand the genuine of'.
additionally, predictions of the destiny are prophesies, no longer
regularly occurring philosophies. Prophets are ones who are looking
forward to the destiny (often inspired by using a deity), no longer
philosophers.

<br>
<br>
First, ask yourself if you know what "philosophy is." <br>
<br>
Philosophy is love of wise dominion, "wis-dom." <br>
<br>
What is wise dominion? It depends on two sources: what is, and what
goal preferences you have. <br>
<br>
To come up with your own personal philosophy of life, you have to know
or believe you know "what is," or the study of ontology. <br>
<br>
To know how you know what is, you have the science of epistemology. <br>
<br>
To evaluate your thinking, you have the science of logic. <br>
<br>
So, basically, if you're honest, you as everyperson will acknowledge
that you have different moods, different levels of awareness. Modern
science confirms this--lower beta wave states for counting beans and
atoms, higher gamma waves for insight, intuition, alpha during dream
cognition, etc. <br>
<br>
So, basically, you will acknowledge that your perception of what is
varies. You might have a precognitive or telepathic dream, both of
which are verified by science, e.g. links at <a
href="http://www.lucidity.com"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://www.lucidity.com</a> <a
href="http://www.noetic.org"
rel="nofollow"class=Clr-b>http://www.noetic.org</a>
http://www.heartmath.org http://www.tiller.org and http://www.itp.edu
. If so, you'd have an insight into God-related Truth/absolute
values. Later in the day, perhaps you, in beta wave, would question
your alpha wave experience, etc. <br>
<br>
At that point, Pascal wagers that if one has no clue if God Is, there
is a 50-50 chance God Is. In such a case, one stands to gain an
infiinte eternal Good by e.g. simply "Loving God completely, and
colleague as Self." So, logically, that basic type of religiosity is
a good bet, as it isn't too onerous, and has a 50% likelihood of being
True. <br>
<br>
Further, the ontological question of "why is there some thing?" if
logically and scienfifically we know that absolutely nothing comes of
absolutely nothing, yields this: there has had to always been Some
Thing. How did Energy as Thing always exist? is less logically
satisfactory than hypothesizing that Some Being has always Been. <br>
<br>
So, one's philosophy of "life" logically does not begin with birth,
nor end with death, but includes pre-birth and post-passing "goals."
These goals would therefore include the joy of Eternal Life, as a 50%+
possibility, being loving, kind, well-fed while here, etc. This is
basically Kant's notion of we have to postulate God, in order to have
a good and decent philosophy of life, re goals. <br>
<br>
p.s. Several literary works which deal with this general question: <br>
<br>
"Strange Life of Ivan Osokin," P. D. Ouspensky (not the greatest
novel, but an inspiration for one of the screenwriters of "Groundhog
Day"). <br>
"The Great Divorce," C. S. Lewis. <br>
"Testimony of Light," Helen Greaves. <br>
"Nineteen Ways of Looking at Wang Wei," Weinberger and Paz. <br>
"Shakespeare in the Light of Sacred Art," Martin Lings. <br>
"Expecting Adam," Martha Beck. <br>
"The Overachievers," Alexandra Robbins.

what is philosophy?

answers1: love or like wisdom. <br>
and the wisdom of God is Jesus <br>
so the philosophy is to love God.
answers2: Nothing more than the study of beings and reflection upon them.
answers3: Wisdom.
answers4: Love of wisdom. Philosophy is the attempt to discover truth
using reason.
answers5: The search for TRUTH. Not necessarily fact.
answers6: To this old biker that is a simple answer, philosophy is the
combined history of the different and many truths found on the many
and different paths to enlightenment. Now my greatest truth, that
perfect sunset, there never seems to be anyone around to share it
with, and there is no camera better than the mind to view it with and
there is no greater photo album than the Soul to keep the memory safe!

answers7: Philo = love <br>
Sophy = wisdom, knowledge. <br>
<br>
Philosophy is a blind man in a dark room searching for a black cat
that may or may not exist.
answers8: Philosophy is questions that may never be answered.
Religion is answers that may never be questioned.
answers9: I'm not really sure myself. I'm not satisfied by the
definition that comes from etymology, that philosophy is the love of
wisdom. I think that there is more to philosophy than that. <br>
<br>
If I had to try to define it, I would say that philosophy is an
attempt at understanding the world, and various principles and
concepts, by thinking about them in the most perfect way possible.
This way of thinking doesn't always come naturally to us, and it may
seem tedious at times, and philosophers can make mistakes, but
philosophy is still an attempt at thought without logical fallacies
and other pitfalls of the mind. <br>
<br>
I may be wrong, though.
answers10: The love of wisdom.

Classical Greek Philosophy?

answers1: Roman culture, and Roman philosophy, was almost entirely
adapted from the Greek. So you can take anything either Roman or
Greek as the influences on the modern world. This is convenient,
since many more people are able to read Latin compared to Greek. <br>
<br>
An awful lot of modern academic philosophy begins with the ancients.
Zeno's paradox is taught to every beginning student. That's the one
about going halfway to your goal, then halfway again, etc. The theory
is you never quite get there. Occam's Razor is one we all learned:
when you are choosing between two theories, pick the one that requires
the least complicated explanation. That is, the simplest is most
likely to be the truest. It only works sometimes, and hardly ever can
be trusted in a technological world. Much of logic and reasoning, and
also much of the fundamentals of mathematics, were founded on the
works of classical Greece. <br>
<br>
It's not really possible to separate out its influence, because it was
also a critical influence on all the civilized world during the
intervening period. Sort of like whispers down the line: Socrates
influences Plato who influences a long line of thinkers that
eventually gets down to the dullest student in Philosophy 101.
